Chiropractic Care:

The Australian Chiropractic Association (ACA) defines Chiropractic as ‘a drug and surgery free modality of treatment concerned with the diagnosis, management and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system (spine); this includes the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.

Chiropractors focus on the detection and correction of abnormal spinal function and its subsequent effect on how the nervous system controls and coordinates the body. Chiropractors in Australia are nationally registered and regulated healthcare professionals.

Chiropractors provide patient-centred care and work in partnership with their patients, by using shared decision making through a detailed consent process and using communication strategies that are tailored to the needs and preferences of the patient.

When treating infants and young children Chiropractic care typically involves the use of low-force, low-amplitude techniques in contrast to those used on adults. Chiropractors are educated to modify spinal manual therapy to suit the age and presenting condition of a patient.

Chiropractic care is delivered by university educated, regulated healthcare professionals with a commitment to ensuring evidence informed care is provided to patients’.

FAQs

  • Initial consult (1st visit) (please allow 15 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out relevant forms)

Our friendly receptionist will give you a history form to complete (if you haven’t already done this online). Please bring any relevant imaging (e.g. x-rays) and important health history information that may assist. From here, you will meet one of our Chiropractors who will take a detailed health history and discuss your current presentation. A thorough examination of your posture, spine, nervous system and overall health will then be conducted.

Following your examination and depending on your case findings, a referral for spinal x-rays may be considered for a full diagnostic assessment, to rule out anything more serious and assist in developing your treatment plan. Treatment may or may not be performed on your first visit, this will depend on your unique presentation. Upon collaborating all your health information, we will determine whether you are in the right place and a candidate for Chiropractic care or if you require a referral to a different health practitioner.

Report of findings visit (2nd visit)

Your Chiropractor, after collaborating your history and examination results will develop a tailored treatment plan. This will then be explained to you, outlining a recommended course of action with the intention of meeting your treatment goals.

  • The Australian Chiropractic Association (ACA) defines a Chiropractic adjustment as ‘the application of a specific force in a precise direction, applied skilfully to a spinal joint that is fixated, “locked up”, or not moving as it should. This can help improve or restore motion to the joint, helping the spine to gradually regain more normal motion and function.

There are many ways to adjust the spine. Usually the chiropractor’s hands or a specially designed instrument delivers a brief and highly-accurate thrust. Some adjusting methods are quick, whereas others require a slow, constant or indirect pressure.

Restoring better spinal function can help improve mobility, vitality, and endurance’.

  • No you don’t. Some adjustments cause you to experience a ‘cracking’ sound called a cavitation. This sound is caused by gas being released from a joint due to a change in pressure.

Our highly skilled and experienced Chiropractors use a various range of treatment techniques ranging from gentle lower force up to more manual style adjustments. These techniques are adapted and discussed with each unique patient to individualise the treatment specifically to their needs.

  • That is completely up to you! Much like the choice of how often you get your car serviced, how often you exercise, how much water you drink and how much you value functioning at your best, the decision is always yours.

We are here to support your Chiropractic and health journey in whatever way you would like! We will always give our professional recommendations for your presentation.

  • Survive (‘patch up’ care) – come in as often as you like to address pain and symptoms only. This does not get to the root of the problem or guarantee any long-term results.

Thrive (‘wellness’ care) – a tailored schedule of care to help your spine and nervous system function at its optimal level and support you to be your best. The aim is to get to the root of the problem and make a deeper and more sustainable change.
